I've had this buzz/rattle coming from the clutch pedal area whenever I shift above 4000 rpm.  I determined the culprit was the adjuster tension spring inside the pedal arm.  Wrapping some dampening material around the spring fixed the problem.

Something to check before replacing the $50 cable...
