My transmission grinds when I put it into reverse. Why won't
Ford fix it?

The 5-speed manual transmission in the SHO has (like many
other sticks) an unsynchronized reverse gear. To minimize any
grinding when you engage reverse, first move the lever into a
forward gear (1st and 5th are the most commonly recommended),
then without letting the clutch out engage reverse.
