        compress the valve spring and then hold the shim guide
        down while the shim is popped out. Clearances are checked
        using a feeler gauge and by gauging the size of the shim
        needed to replace the original. The SHO Shop offers a
        tool kit &quot;rental&quot; basically for doing the 60K
        maintenance. This kit includes a set of different sized
        shims.</td>

        <td valign="center" valign="top">Carefully inspect the front control
        arm-to-subframe bushing; it could be getting hard and
        cracked, and the ball joint on the knuckle-end could also
        be getting loose. No service parts are available for the
        control arms; they are replaced as a unit, ball joint,
        bushing, and all. Same for the rear control arms, inspect
        the rubber bushing at the knuckle end of the arm(s). Also
        give the upper strut mounts and the front strut bearings
        a good once-over. The front strut bearing can be
        disassembled and regreased. Pay attention to how
        everything goes together and don't lose any of the ball
        bearings.</td>
