Enabling Autolock
</b></font><hr WIDTH="100%"></font></b>
The 5 speed SHOs&nbsp; didn't come with the "autolock" feature enabled
from the factory, due to their lack of a seat switch and the fact some
folks don't shift thru reverse (necessary to activate the autolock feature)
on a 5 speed after getting their car (but it sometimes helps it get into
first!).&nbsp; If your car has keyless entry, you can enable autolock using
the following instructions :
<p>Thanks to David Lawson :
<ul>No need to add the seat switch -- just jumper the connector for it,
which is the only unused connector under the seat (easiest to find if you
move the seat to the most rearward of it's travel). Then enable it by using
the keypad code: enter your factory code, and within 5 sec. hold down 7/8
and press 3/4.</ul>

<ul>My '89 came with the connector jumpered and autolock enabled. I didn't
know it was optional until I read about it in Joshua Teixeira's posts in
the archives.
<p>I really like it; it feels secure to know the doors are always locked
when I live in the center of a large city. It locks the doors under the
following circumstances:
<br>&nbsp;
<ul>
<li>
First time after you start the car, when you shift out of reverse, or when
you close all the doors after shifting out of reverse.</li>

<li>
When you close all the doors anytime after that.</li>

<li>
When you turn off the interior lights.</li>
</ul>
</ul>

<ul>If you install the seat switch, the autolock will not lock the doors
if the seat is empty. If not, you will be locked out if you leave the engine
running, get out of the car and close the doors. (No big deal: just enter
the keyless entry code.) That is the one inconvenience with the autolock,
but I don't mind it at all and I really like the security.
<p>To disable the autolock once it's enabled, just use the same keypad
voodoo you used to enable it.</ul>
