The primary advantage of the police grill on a Taurus or
Taurus SHO is in the area of engine cooling. The grill was designed to
increase the amount of cooling air that gets to the radiator, oil cooler,
transmission cooler, power steering cooler, and air conditioning condenser.
In police package cars, all of these items see severe duty use, i.e.
long periods of idling in hot climates, hard acceleration from a cold start,
and long duty cycles.

If you live in a warm area you might find the police grill
to be helpful in keeping your Taurus running cooler. In the August 1990
issue, Car and Driver tested a police package Taurus and commented
that the grill with the cooling package is so effective that, "on cold
mornings, the heater is useless for fifteen minutes or so".

It may be a worthwhile addition to your Taurus for the improved cooling
as well as pure aesthetics. The Ford part number is FODZ-8200-A.

Although a police package exists for 1992-1995 Taurus models,
the '92 to '95 SHO's unique one-piece nose cover prevents a retrofit of
the police grill for those model years. The grill consists of a lower bumper
cover with an additional cooling slot below the small stock "grill".
