'89 to '95 5-speed	The SHO has a 5-speed gear box made by Mazda. It is not considered to be a good example of a manual transmission. The Yamaha engine is enough of a triumph to make us SHO owners tolerate the gearbag. The SHO's final drive ratio is 3.74. '93 to '95 automatic	This information comes from a Borg-Warner Automatic Transmission Systems employee: The '93 to '95 automatics use the AX4S (previously named AXOD-E) transmission with these ratios: Gear Ratio MPH per 1000 RPM Max Speed (@7000 RPM) 1st 2.771 2nd 1.543 3rd 1.000 4th 0.694 Reverse 2.263 According to my information, all upgrades for the SHO were eventually made across the board, as the Windstar and Taurus also used and still use this transmission. Sorry I don't know the final drive ratios. These should be published somewhere and easy to find.
'96 and later automatic	The 1996+ model gets the AX4N transmission, which has the same gearsets (and thus the same gear ratios) as the AX4S used in the '93 to '95 SHO, but has improved torque capacity and shift quality (3-2 downshift and more).
