Road Track clocked the following figures for a '90:
Acceleration, 0 to 60 mph.
6.6 seconds (most times range from 6.5-7.0)
1/4 mile elapsed time and trap speed
15.2 seconds @ 92.5 mph
Lateral acceleration, 200 ft skidpad
.81g
Braking distance, 60 to 0 mph
168 ft.
Interior Noise
45 dBA idle, 71 dBA@70 mph
The newer ones are about 45 lbs. heavier, and the automatic isn't quite as snappy as the 5-speed (perhaps because the softer suspension allows more weight transfer to the rear?) Some typical figures for a '93 automatic are:
Acceleration, 0 to 60 mph
7.5 seconds
1/4 mile elapsed time
15.7 seconds
Lateral acceleration on 200 ft. skidpad
.80g
Braking distance, 60-0 mph
143 ft.
For reference, the 1995 Nissan Maxima 5-speed is roughly comparable to the automatic SHO, the Volvo 850 Turbo is about on a par with the 1990 5-speed, and the BMW 5-series is about the same for almost twice the price. (You won't convince a BMW nut of this, however. :-)

The braking distance for an 89' (w/out ABS) is alot quicker than 90' reports 60-0 in 168 ft. Come on thats a little over half a football field, the other day I was racing an import in the street and was winding out of second then hit 3rd and was at 72, I noticed two cops(which I was looking 4 because they're always there checking radar by my house then I hit the brakes nasty while still in 3rd(talking about nose diving!)and came to a complete stop within' the ally to the street so I could turn and play it off(the other guy never noticed the cops till' he passed them!!! Think he got busted 75 in a 35mph!!!) So the braking distance was more like 80 ft. and should be the same for others w/out ABS as long if the pads aren't worn and you don't make the wheels lock up, that's why you leave it in gear till' almost stopped(about 10mph then push clutch in).

a 1995 maxima 5 speed is comparable to a 5 speed sho anyday not just an auto sho. ford's auto trannys are terrible(as are nissans) but 5speed vs 5 speed, it's a dead heat.

Todays 2004 maxima se/5-speed with 265 hp might be an equal for a late model sho 5-speed with a measly 220hp and they weigh nearly the same. I should know, I have two sho's/ 5-spds and work at a nissan dealer, the sales mgr having a new max se 5-sp raced me and he actually lost, by a few feet. And to all of you out there, that being most of you, the 1992 Sho 5-sp had a special light weight rod shifter (obviously the first year for the rod shifter) and a slight revision in the cams and made 230hp/205 lb.ft-tq for that one year. It was also tested by two mags for a 0-60 time of 6.2 and a quarter of 15.0 flat @ 94.1 plus a top end of 146mph. I've owned five shos from a 90' to a 95 and one automatic.
By the way, my stock 92' 5-sp will eat a new bmw 530i 5-sp for lunch and keep-up with if not equal to a new 545i auto. I have friends and family with these newer bimmers and in the case of the 530 5-sp, he sees my tail lights often, and the 545-auto sees me directly across to his right at 70 mph under full throttle. give me 100 more hp and 100+ more lb. ft tq and I'll go hunting caddy CTS-V's, M5's and vettes. Thanks
