| | Even though a heavy front-wheel-drive sedan is far from the ideal drag-racing platform, the SHO is a fairly capable drag-strip racer in stock form. This page is dedicated to showing the drag racing results obtained by various SHOtimers in their cars. Compare to magazine numbers, if you dare. | 1995 5-speed | Owner: Tom Birchard Car: 1995 5-speed, all options Modifications: K&N air filter Date and location: July 11, 1996 Milan Dragway, Milan, MI

With the exception of replacement fluids and a great custom stereo, everything on my '94 5-speed SHO is bone stock. On the way home, I passed the 49k mark on the odometer. It wears Dunlop SP4000s with pretty good tread left after 13k miles of use. The tank carried about 11 gallons of 93 octane "no-name" fuel. | | Run #1 | Run #2 | Run #3 |

| I own a 1989 SHO with 129,000 miles on it. I took it to the local drag strip in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada and recorded the
following times. Keep in note I had no real idea how to launch the car on a drag strip, I'm used to 4000rpm launches on the street:
17.141 @ 87.846mph, 4000prm launch, .198sec reaction - 17.249 @ 87.657mph, 4000rpm launch, .132sec reaction
- 15.772 @ 88.828mph, 2000rpm launch!!!, .669sec reaction!!!!!
- 18.508 @ 86.082mph, 2000rpm launch, .324sec reaction (forgot where second gear was!!!)
Weather was a cloudy day, about 78F. No modifications have been made to car as far as I know, since I've
only owned the car for 5,000 miles. It redlines at 7800 rpm, so it seems to redline higher than car magazine tests (7200 rpm). | Brent Kanon | Here is my best time with my 1989 SHO. Mods were - Vortech Supercharger 14psi.
- C&L 73mm mass air.
C&M Racing chip.- Stock Y-pipe.
- Stock Exhaust.
Environmental conditions: - Temp 52º F
- Relative Humidity 72%
- Elev. 5280 +
1/4 mile Results: 13.599 sec. @ 101.17 MPH | Randy McCante | Proving that even a Gen 3 SHO can race, here's some commentary by Doug Lewis on a fast '97. Randy McCante owns a red '97 SHO that I modified to go dragracing. Randy brought me his car and wanted a nitrous system installed so that he could go street racing back home in New Orleans. I did a bunch of things to the car including a 120hp dry manifold system and line locks. Randy took his car to the strip and ripped off some incredible times. RT 60ft ET MPH .568 2.07 13.67 102.8 .602 2.09 13.69 102.1 .603 2.11 13.71 101.8 .606 2.10 13.76 101.6 The car works great. You
switch the system on by flipping two switches. One for the nitrous and the tranny modification (I substitute a 10 ohm resister for the EPC circuit, this makes the tranny run at max line pressure), the other is for the computer chip. The chip has two programs, one for street and one for nitrous. On the street side, the engine management is set for max performance. With good timing and fuel maps for power and performance. The nitrous side takes a ton of timing out to keep the motor safe under fire. It also runs the motor rich and shortshifts the tranny a couple of hundred rpm. The nitrous system is a NOS Dry manifold system pilled for 120hp. This much bottle requires a lot more fuel. For this, I installed a 190lph Motorsports pump in the tank. I also have the system tied into the line locks and a timer relay. After the switches are flipped, you purge the system and do your burnout. Then pull into the beams for the start, step hard on the brakes and push the button. This engages the line locks and stages the nitrous system. When the lights come down, you let off the button and the car takes off. Then about half a second later the nitrous comes in and the car makes a move that is impressive. The tranny shifts hard and positive like a performance car, not a sedan (too bad it can't do that on the street). I've probably had the most experience in destroying motors on the bottle. I took that in mind when I did this car. I made sure to take enough timing out of the nitrous side of the chip, while giving the motor enough fuel. I also installed straight copper plugs(that was a *****) because nitrous doesn't like platinum. So far, Randy has run about 50lbs of nitrous thru the car and it has been flawless. It hasn't skipped a beat. I was able to drive the car while it was in my car and now have a new respect for the car. It handles like mine and is as fast as mine on the motor. We raced from Atlanta to Commerce (where the track is) and I've never had anyone eat my ass at 150mph before like Randy in his '97. That car is fast and I'll have one at some point. Here's a list of mods: - Red '97 SHO w/3.4L V-8
- Enki 16x8's with 225/50ZR16 BF Goodrich Comp TA's
- Lowered suspension and FPS Grooved rotors
- Conical K&N Filtercharger bolted straight to the stock 80mm MAF
- Custom switchable SuperChips chip with two programs one for street and one for nitrous
- Borla cat-back with the post converter removed
- Motorsports 190lph in-tank pump
- 120hp NOS Dry Manifold system
- Remote bottle opener and a bottle heater
